Teeth Whitening Myths

Teeth Whitening Causes Teeth Sensitivity and Gum Irritation

People think that teeth whitening is permanent but it isn’t. Just as you have to continually launder your white clothes to keep them clean and beautiful, the same holds true for your teeth. Nearly every food and beverage will stain your teeth so keeping them white is a lifelong commitment. Once you complete any teeth whitening system, in order to keep your smile bright and white, it is highly recommended that you visit your dental professional twice a year and practice regular whitening maintenance. This is especially true if you are a smoker and/or an avid drinker of colored beverages such as red wine, coffee or tea. Spotless White offers a maintenance system that allows you to swab your teeth just once a week to help you keep your bright, white smile.

Teeth Whitening Systems Ruin Your Enamel

Depends! All of us are looking for a brighter, whiter smile. The years have yellowed our teeth and yellow teeth dim a naturally beautiful smile. There are several teeth whitening systems out there but are they safe? Many believe that these teeth-whitening systems, especially the ones that claim “immediate results,” come with a catch: they damage tooth enamel. This is a myth surrounding the science of teeth whitening that simply needs some clarification... maybe some debunking.

Let’s discuss a couple of the methods on the market and whether or not they fit this myth…

Tray whitening and white strip systems typically contain 10% carbamide peroxide as their active ingredient. Clinical studies have shown that this percentage of carbamide peroxide has no damaging effect on tooth enamel. But easy does it. Using these trays more often than recommended may, in fact, have a negative effect on enamel, and you’re better safe than sorry. There’s no clinical proof that the more often you use the trays, the better results you’ll see. So, if you’re going to use a tray whitening system, use as directed, and if you’re not happy with the results, try Spotless White. Spotless White aren’t half as messy as the teeth-whitening trays you’ll find on the market, are much easier to use and produce significantly better results.

There are other types of teeth whitening systems on the market, such as toothpastes, strips and paints. With these products as well, use only as recommended. Overuse could potentially damage enamel. And again, you’re better safe than sorry. Dentist offices use similar solutions found in products you’ll find on store shelves but with a greater percentage of the peroxide. These high concentrations, although they produce better results in terms of whitening, can damage enamel, especially if overused. Furthermore, many of the teeth-whitening products you may find on store shelves contain acids. The main purpose of putting acids in teeth-whitening systems is to increase shelf life. They also have teeth-whitening credentials, but the damage acids can inflict on tooth enamel far outweigh their whitening benefits.

Spotles Pre White are “tooth detergent” that contains an active ingredient naturally derived from coconuts and clinically proven to be orally safe and effective. The formula also naturally hydrates your teeth, which minimizes tooth-sensitivity to a degree that most other whitening products do not. You won’t find harsh acids in our products.

So, as you can see, answering the question “Does teeth-whitening damage enamel?” can be a bit complicated. It depends on which product one uses and how often one uses it.

Caps, Crowns and Veneers Can’t Be Whitened

False! Spotless White work great whitening all types of dental restorations. Other products, however, do not meet this high-set bar. Spotless Pre White is the world’s first “tooth detergent,” and has been clinically proven to bring dental restorations such as caps, crowns and veneers back to their original shade. So, whereas other teeth-whitening systems leave your veneers or crowns yellow while whitening the rest of your true teeth (a highly visible hindrance if you ask me), Spotless White powerful whitening effects work on all artificial dental restorations.

All Whitening Systems Are the Same

Another false! Not all whitening systems are the same. There are trays, strips, whitening toothpastes, etc., and some use different concentrations of their active bleaching ingredient. The sciences of teeth whitening procedures have been around for centuries, in fact, and you can safely assume that not all of them are the same. Similar ingredients may be found in many of the whitening systems found on the market today, but our products are distinctly different. Spotless Pre White are the first “tooth detergent,” with naturally derived ingredients that work on a molecular level to lift stains from the surface, and subsurface, of yellowed teeth. They are unlike any other product out there, especially in terms of efficacy, convenience, and price!
